Small TV report about the CHOPIN project

A small television report about the CHOPIN R&D project was broadcast by RTP2 (the 2nd channel of Portuguese Public TV) on Apr. 23, 2013, within the series "100s de Ciência" (in English, 100 seconds about Science"). It corresponded to the 2nd episode of this series, in which Prof. Rui Rocha (PI of the project) presented an overview of the project, namely its main goals and relevance to society. The interview with RTP staff had taken place at ISR - University of Coimbra on July 2012, only 3 months after the beginning of the project.

José Santos has been hired

José Santos has been hired to be a research technician of the CHOPIN project. He completed his B.Sc. degree on July 2012 in the Dept. of Informatics, University of Coimbra, where he is currently pursuing the M.Sc. degree. He will develop his graduate project within CHOPIN, with the theme "Implementation of a Mobile Ad Hoc Network Communication Protocol for Human-Robot Search and Rescue Teams", under the scientific supervision of Prof. Filipe Araújo. He has been hired for 6 months, starting on Feb. 15, 2013.

André Araújo has been hired

André Aráujo has been hired to be a research assistant of the CHOPIN project, after completing his M.Sc. degree on Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Coimbra in last July, with a M.Sc. dissertation titled "ROSint - Integration of a mobile robot in ROS architecture". He will start working in the project from the beginning of October 2012, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Rui P. Rocha.

2nd Meeting with Coimbra Fire Department

The research team participated in a second meeting with "Bombeiros Sapadores de Coimbra" (Coimbra Fire Department) in order to get detailed information about how fire fighting teams organizations operate in urban fires scenarios. The meeting was held on Nov. 13, 2012, in Coimbra Fire Department's facilities.

Pioneer mobile robots were delivered

The three Pioneer 3-DX mobile robots were delivered to ISR on Jun. 27, 2012. They were purchased to Adept Mobile Robots, Inc (USA) in the end of May and were retained at Portuguese customs services of Lisbon Airport for about a month, due to some bureaucracies.
